Cosmetic Surgery after weight loss

With the growing popularity of bariatric surgery, body contouring following significant weight loss has become a field of expertise in itself.

By applying the latest techniques in body sculpting individualised to each patient's specific needs and priorities the surgeon can help you realise the new shape that is hidden beneath excess skin that remains after your weight loss goals have been achieved.

The remaining skin often does not retain the elastic qualities necessary to “shrink back down” to your new underlying shape.

Consultation

Prior to consultation you will be required to complete an in-depth patient profile that will help assess your physical and psychological health plus allergies and any medication you are taking, including herbal medication, smoking and alcohol intake.

This information is essential to reducing health risks and aid healing of tissue.

During consultation your surgeon will assess your anatomy as well as your priorities and help you develop a comprehensive plan, as well as discuss combinations of procedures.

Problems which commonly need addressing are:

• Breast ptosis or droopiness due to loss of volume

• Sagging of facial skin

• Excess abdominal skin due to lax muscles of the abdominal wall, sometimes with an   accompanying hernia

• Hanging skin under the arms

• Wrinkling and excessive bagginess of the buttocks and thighs

All surgery carries risks and complications associated with the anaesthetic, medication, procedure and post-operative bleeding, swelling and infection. However complications are rare and usually minor.

Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon
Surgical Director of Sandon House Clinic
GMC no 3690286

Having qualified as a doctor in London and specialising in the field of Plastic Surgery, I returned to the Northwest in 2005. My passion for cosmetic surgery coupled with an increasing demand led me to develop my own facility Sandon House Clinic. As a Consultant Plastic Surgeon I developed an interest in the management of post bariatric patients. I have provided corrective surgery ranging from simple abdominal correction to full body rejuvenation. I presented my series of patients on the subject of body rejuvenation at the last WLSG meeting (De Vere Hotel Blackpool 2009). Following on from that I have developed a working relationship with the group and I’m more than happy to offer my clinical experience to those patients considering the next step (body rejuvenation).
