Hi my name is Paul Walsh I am 33 years of age. I am from County Limerick in the Republic of Ireland. All my life I have been overweight. I suppose my first real memory of having issues with being overweight was when I started into secondary school at about 12 years of age. It all hits home pretty fast how fat you are when all the other kids try to drill it in to you every day.

I thought long and hard and did lots of research before I had Gastric band surgery on 10 March 2009 with WLS Group. After 20 years of YO-YO dieting and repeating the cycle every year of losing weight and putting it back on I decided on Gastric Band to ensure that once I lost the weight the band would assist me in keeping it off.

After several years of yo-yo dieting, trying all the traditional methods such as Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Lighter Life as well as some of the fad diets like egg and grapefruit, cabbage soup (sound familiar? Yuk!) and then some of the un-traditional - slimming tablets - I had really come to the end of my tether.

I have had issues with my weight all my life. I was always a plump child- most of my earliest memories are food related. I suppose like quite a lot of families food was used as a reward –my mother was a superb cook.
