Profile

Mr Akhtar qualified in medicine in 1983. Most of his postgraduate training has been in the North West Region of England.

To further his training he has done fellowships in Japan and USA. He has been working in the Pennine Trust as specialist Laparoscopic and Upper Gastrointestinal surgeon since 2000.

Mr Akhtar has developed wide experience in all aspects of general and gastrointestinal surgery. He has got a large NHS cancer and laparoscopic surgical practice.

He is the lead Oesophagogastric Surgeon for the Pennine Trust. Mr Akhtar specialises in keyhole hernia surgery and has undertaken more than 500 procedures with excellent results.

Mr Akhtar has interest in Obesity Surgery and has had training for it both in England and abroad and specialises in advanced laparoscopic surgery and performs Gastric Band and Bypass operation through keyhole technique.
