Profile

Mr Michael Van den Bossche is a General Surgeon with a special interest in Laparoscopic Surgery.

He was born in Brussels, Belgium, and did his undergraduate medical training at the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium. He trained as a General Surgeon at the same University and completed his specialist surgical training in 1995.

From 1995 to 1997 Mr Van den Bossche undertook a period of additional surgical training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery before being appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon in the Department of Digestive and Laparoscopic Surgery at Saint Elisabeth Hospital in Brussels.

His special interests include Minimally Invasive (Keyhole) Surgery, Gastrointesinal Surgery and Obesity Surgery (www.lapband.co.uk) and he has published articles in several international medical journals. His appointment to the Medical Specialist Group in 2000 led to a considerable expansion in the numbers and types of Laparoscopic procedures that could be performed in Guernsey and new minimally invasive surgical techniques are being continuously introduced.

Mr Van den Bossche is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, is on the Specialist Register of the GMC and is a Member of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery, the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

His interests away from work include clay pigeon shooting and squash.
