Mr Khurshid is a Consultant Gastro-intestinal Surgeon at Blackpool Fylde & Wyre Foundation Trust where he was appointed in July 2000. He qualified in Medicine from Punjab University in Pakistan and after that he had initial training in Pakistan. He later came to the United Kingdom and obtained a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons from Ireland in 1992. He then started his career as a Specialist Registrar for a period of 6½ years at Leicester Teaching Hospitals. During this period of time he obtained a Completion Certificate of Surgical Training in General Surgery after passing successfully the Intercollegiate Speciality Board examination in 1999.

Mr Khurshid has a wide experience in gastro-intestinal and laparoscopic surgery. He is an accredited upper GI gastro-intestinal surgeon in Blackpool Victoria Hospital and he has been running this service single-handedly for the last 10 years and now with a Regional Cancer Upper GI Centre for Cumbria & Lancashire, established in Lancashire Teaching Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, Preston where he is a part of the surgical team and will be operating regularly on complex upper GI cancer patients.

Mr Khurshid sub-specialises and has a very major interest in laparoscopic surgery. He is one of the first surgeons in the region to start doing both upper GI and lower GI cancer operations by keyhole surgery. He has performed the largest variety of keyhole operations in this region. He has performed in excess of 3,000 keyhole laparoscopic operations, which includes laparoscopic assisted oesophagectomies, laparoscopic cancer operations, laparoscopic colonic cancer surgery, laparoscopic gastric bands and laparoscopic gastric sleeve, laparoscopic complex hiatal herniae and anti-reflux surgery also including laparoscopic gall bladder, spleen, hernia and appendix operations.

As a gastro intestinal surgeon he has got a keen interest in bariatric surgery and has performed gastric sleeve and gastric band operations. He is pursuing bariatric surgery with great interest and he is very confident and comfortable in performing all of these procedures due to his vast experience in complex gastro-intestinal abdominal surgery.
